At least 94 residents of a slum in Mumbai died, according to police, after eating a toxic, improvised spirit drink. Indeed, more than 45 are hospitalized in critical condition in hospitals in financial capital of India.
Police has already made the arrest of five people, who seem to be relatet to these deaths in slum west of the city. Indeed, a police spokesman in Mumbai said the death toll may increase.
The makeshift alcohol, which often contains toxic substances used in industry, such as methanol, is very popular with the poor Indians because they are cheap. In 2011 only in West Bengal at least 140 people died after they drank such spirits.
