The Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has expanded its codeshare agreement with Hong Kong Airlines, an internationally recognized 4-star airline according to Skytrax, in order to offer travelers improved connection between Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
Under the expanded codeshare agreement, Hong Kong Airlines will place its code ‘HX’ on its flights Etihad Airways between Hong Kong, the third most important financial center in the world, and Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The Etihad Airways will launch daily rate path from June 15, 2015, offering 3,620 seats per week with the aircraft Airbus A330-200.
Moreover, Hong Kong Airlines will carry codeshare on the new service Etihad Airways between Abu Dhabi and Madrid, the capital and largest city of Spain. The route, which started in March 2015, operates four times a week and offers 2,096 seats per week with Airbus A330-200 two positions categories.
The Kevin Knight, Chief Strategy and Planning Officer of Etihad Airways, said: “Our agreement on code share flights with Hong Kong Airlines started mainly focus last year to strengthen the connection between Asia and the Middle East. The enlargement of the common code will result in further commercial success for both airlines, especially deliver real benefits to cooperation offering business and leisure travelers enhanced connection and frequent flights between Asia, the Middle East and Europe. »
Li Dianchun, Commercial Director of Hong Kong Airlines, said: “We are pleased to strengthen cooperation with Etihad Airways through the extension of a common code. There is an increasingly strong demand in Asia for travel to the Gulf Cooperation Council region, Europe, Africa and South America. Improved connection will provide our passengers a wider choice, while at the same time enjoy services and world-class products offered by both airlines. ”
The Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines started the codeshare in December 2014, allowing Etihad Airways to place the code “EY” on flights with Hong Kong Airlines between Hong Kong and Bangkok, and on flights between Hong Kong and Okinawa, while Hong Kong Airlines has placed the code “HX” the services of Etihad Airways between Abu Dhabi and Bangkok.
The Etihad Airways will increase its frequencies in Bangkok from three to four flights a day from July 1, 2015, while Hong Kong Airlines, also will use the common code for extra flight.
